Abstract

Abstract: The Promovida university extension program, linked to the Institute of Biological and Health Sciences (ICBS) at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), aims to promote the rational use and proper disposal of medications, contributing to environmental preservation and public health. This experience report addresses educational activities carried out with the UFAL academic community and surrounding populations. The activities included lectures, blood pressure and glucose measurements, distribution of pamphlets, and the implementation of a medication collection point on campus. Additionally, the program expanded its actions to public schools and health units, fostering discussions about responsible drug use and the risks of self-medication. Community awareness, both academic and external, was strengthened through interactive and participatory approaches, encouraging critical reflections on inappropriate practices and the importance of following medical guidelines. The results demonstrate the initiative’s effectiveness in increasing knowledge about safe medication management and the need for proper disposal, highlighting its positive impact on collective health and environmental sustainability.
